It's tough for Australia to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the achievement hunters, are all that remain for a team that has won it all.

It needed until Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the highest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the pitchers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their batsmen to hold a record if not provided the possibility.

In the end, the outcome of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy getting a platform to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Then best known as the 19-year-old niece of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after her country couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

A T20 World Cup win came three months after her bow and seven global championships have resulted from 10 tries across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "drove us to rethink our standards," Healy stated recently.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this latest epic knock surpassed that earlier display remains open for discussion.

Many contend the argument supporting final game tension. Others can counter with the test that comes when confronting a historic chase and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's clear is this century was much more difficult to predict.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this innings was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in training, it's been a disappointing period because it seemed I lacked timing whatsoever," said Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your competitive instincts kick in and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her major advantage - and an irreplaceable characteristic in taking over from famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the young fast bowler in every game, but this time it merely gave Healy's spark.

A single came off the opening delivery and from there the right-hander was underway.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, sort of got me going," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 deliveries - her fastest at the World Cup - and her ton in 84 deliveries while she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

Once she was removed Australia required another 66 at a run-a-ball - an unconquered height now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"To chase 330 is unfamiliar ground so I'm pleased we have the confidence to do that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, if we do, we know we can do it."

These statements will be the final thing Australia's opponents at this tournament need to hear.

In recent days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has only strengthened - this victory succeeding success over Pakistan by 107-run victory despite being 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final place may well be secure.

It was at that stage they exited last year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at an important competition.

So great is her will, she afterwards commented she wished she had played despite the injury.

Yet even as she later admitted those physical issues have postponed plans to retire, this World Cup is anticipated as her final tournament as skipper in one-day cricket and she is hasn't yet secured a world championship as leader.

Victory in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
