Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the quickest lap in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the high-speed corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
